So far, the splash screen or DVD menu don’t do anything. You can click through the splash screen and then open the program. You can also double-click the program to open it. The most obvious way to open the program is to click the Open button and navigate to the application. There are many ways to open Photoshop Elements. I personally use the desktop shortcut I created earlier and then double-click the program to run it. You can also right-click the program and select Open. Excitotoxic neurodegeneration of the thalamus in a model of somatodendritic release of excitatory amino acids. The effects of kainic acid (KA) (1.5, 3 and 6 micrograms/2 microliters) were examined on neuronal loss in the thalamic nucleus of the hooded rat. The injections were focused in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) and in the thalamic somatodendritic layers and in the colliculus superior medialis (CSM). This latter area receives sensory and nonsensory visual input. Ten days after injection of KA, there was a significant decrease of neurons in the LGN and of neurons stained with NADH-diaphorase, due to degeneration of thalamocortical afferents. Thirty days after injection of KA, a significant neuronal loss was observed in the CSM, co-incident with the thalamic nuclei. Interestingly, there was no neuronal loss in the LGN. NADH-diaphorase staining revealed a significant reduction of neural activity in the CSM of rats injected with KA. Conversely, NADH-diaphorase staining was not significantly altered in the LGN. Moreover, by combining KA injection with brain perfusion with a caged L-glutamate-2-O-methyltyrosine, it was possible to demonstrate that glutamate is released from the thalamic somatodendritic layers and interacts with neurons in the CSM and not with neurons in the LGN.
