At some point I started designing videogames and I’ve been making my dreams come true since then. I’ve been working on this game for the last 9 months and this is my personal way of expressing my creativity. It’s inspired by PS1 puzzle games like Solatorobo, and agp (both videogames by Tom Igoe). In a certain way it simulates the stacking, superimposing, and extracting of formations in nature. The idea is to represent them to generate a sequence of interlocking shapes. But, there is no “rule” to do this: the game behaves in a loose way in a kind of player-determined flow, but with additional constraints to keep all the generated shapes inside the structure. Here is a video showcasing the level generator: STEVE JOBS DESIGNED UNION EXPLAINED I’ve built Union for my friend and collaborator Steve Jobs, who died very recently. This game is a tribute to him, and a way to tell his stories through a simple game. I’ve mixed aspects of the different games that he made, and also remixed the interfaces he used in everything from the Apple II to the Macintosh. Inspired by Asteroids and Slick, Union is a minimal puzzle game about connecting shapes. This is not a tutorial. Playing it involves an immediate sense of recognition, and it’s up to you to solve the puzzles. You will need to explore the entire level to access all the power-ups. The game is designed to be relaxing, contemplative and intuitively fun. The goal is to match all the shapes, but it won’t be easy.
